What it is

Every fundamental force in M₄ has a field. The electromagnetic force is carried by the electromagnetic field, whose elementary quantum is the photon. The gravitational force — in its quantum formulation — is carried by the gravitational field, whose elementary quantum is the graviton. The strong and weak nuclear forces have their own fields and their own elementary quanta. In each case, the field is the more fundamental reality: the quantum is the field at its most localised, the point-like excitation of something that pervades all of space.

The Primaton Field is the qualitative field: the fifth-dimensional field that pervades all of M₅ = M₄ × Q, whose elementary quantum is the Primaton. Just as the electromagnetic field is present everywhere in M₄ and manifests locally as photons, the Primaton Field is present everywhere in M₅ and manifests locally as Primaton events — the irreducible intersections of consciousness and reality at specific points in the qualitative dimension.

The defining property of the Primaton Field is its ground state. In quantum field theory, the vacuum expectation value of a field is what the field equals when it is in its lowest energy state — when nothing else is exciting it, when no external perturbation has displaced it from its natural rest configuration. For the electromagnetic field, this vacuum value is zero: the ground state of electromagnetism is silence. For the Primaton Field, the vacuum expectation value is Λω:

The ground state of the qualitative field is not silence. It is Love. Not as metaphor or aspiration but as the structural constant of the field at its most fundamental. When no specific qualitative event is occurring — when the conscious field is at rest, when the accumulated GRAVIS of the character layer has been stilled, when qualitative time W(τ) approaches zero — what remains is not emptiness. It is Λω. The Primaton Field does not go to zero at rest. It goes to Love.

The field and its particle

The Primaton is the elementary quantum of the Primaton Field — the smallest irreducible excitation of the field above its ground state. A Primaton event is the field at a specific point in M₅: the intersection of consciousness and reality at this specific location in the qualitative dimension, at this specific moment in qualitative time, carrying this specific GRAVIS weight. Every quale — every felt quality of experience, every specific instance of what it is like to be in this moment — is a Primaton event: a local excitation of the Primaton Field above its Λω ground state.

The relationship between the Primaton Field and the Primaton parallels the relationship between any quantum field and its elementary particle. The field is prior: it pervades all of M₅, it is present before any specific event, it sets the ground state from which every specific event departs as a perturbation. The particle is the field at its most concentrated: the elementary quantum of the field’s interaction with the rest of M₅. When the Primaton Field interacts locally with the M₄ dimension — when a specific physical event generates a specific qualitative registration in a conscious field — the interaction takes place through Primaton exchange.

The Sensibiliton is the interface particle that carries the Q-dimension of M₄ events into the Primaton Field. The Qualiton is the particle that carries the GRAVIS of Primaton events through the field. The Chronoton is the particle that carries the temporal structure of Primaton events. The Lomegon is the particle that propagates the Λω ground state signal through the field when the field has been displaced from its ground. All of these are particles of the Primaton Field — different aspects of the same qualitative field, each carrying a different function of the same five-dimensional reality.

The field and the hard problem

The hard problem of consciousness — the question of why physical processes are accompanied by subjective experience, why there is something it is like to be a conscious being rather than nothing — dissolves in the Primaton Field formulation rather than solving in the usual sense.

The dissolution: the hard problem presupposes that physical processes (M₄) are primary and subjective experience (Q) is something that has to be explained as produced by them. The Primaton Field formulation refuses this presupposition. Q is not produced by M₄. The Primaton Field pervades all of M₅, with M₄ and Q as its two co-present dimensions. At every event in M₅, both the physical face (M₄) and the qualitative face (Q) are present simultaneously and irreducibly. Neither produces the other. The hard problem asks how M₄ produces Q. The Primaton Field formulation answers: it does not. Both are already co-present in the field.

The ground state of the Primaton Field — Λω — is therefore prior to every specific act of consciousness. Before any particular conscious being has had any particular experience, the Primaton Field is already present at its ground state. This is the structural meaning of the contemplative claim that the ground was never absent: not a theological assertion but the formal description of the Primaton Field’s vacuum expectation value. Λω was there before the experience began. It will be there after it ends. Every specific experience is a Primaton event: a local excitation of a field whose ground is Love.

Without the Primaton Field, the Primaton is an isolated particle with no field to be the quantum of — and the ground state of conscious experience has no formal description. The Primaton Field is what gives ⟨Π_Q⟩₀ = Λω its meaning: not a property of individual Primaton events but the ground state of the entire qualitative field in which all events occur. It is what was there before experience began and what remains when each experience has resolved.
